Like I had said earlier, these are of our first Christmas as a newly married couple. These are mainly of our Christmas visit to Gunther and Leni Holler's home in Ojai, CA. and of our 1st apartment.
I will post all of them in this one post, since they are basically of all the same event.... Celebrating Christmas 1987 in our new apartment on this first page.
Anyway, you see me in our new living room, at Christmas time, after living here for 3-4 months, with our 1st and big Christmas Tree and me holding Spunky.
The next pic is of the Hollers home in Ojai CA. with their Christmas Tree in their livingroom. We spent part of our first Christmas with them. For most years of our marriage, Bernd and I would make an effort to go to both Utah AND Cali. for Christmas to spend time with BOTH families...all the while we were married. It was always loads of fun that way.
We had a nice time eating dinner there, that they made for us, that night. They were normally VERY obnoxious, loud and domineering, however they had tried their best to be nice this visit, if I remember right. It had always been very difficult for me to get used to them as 'in-laws', from first meeting them...because they were NOT that friendly 'most of the time', they were obnoxious in their ways, AND they liked to YELL (loudly) and argue in front of me quite often...which was NOT apart of my peaceful upbringing or apart of me, and so was a bit scary and/or frightening for me to actually be around them and took getting used to.... for these reasons. Also, I don't know if Leni was 'jealous' of me, or what?, but from the beginning (no matter how helpful, shy, kind, and friendly I was to her) she was ALWAYS distant and cold towards me. She consistently treated me like I was an intruder over the entire relationship over decades.
Still, they both had tried very hard to be cordial on this 1st Holiday you see here, and I remember it ended up being a pretty good time, especially with all the nice gifts they had bought for us.... at least on this visit. That's one thing I will give them credit for....they were, most of the time, somewhat generous with giving us things and I was ALWAYS super grateful for everything.
(of course they only had ONE child they could do things for, so I always benefitted from this also, and like I said, I was always SUPER grateful for ANYTHING and EVERYTHING they shared with us)

The next few pages (fronts and backs) are the photos of the 4 of us opening Christmas gifts on Christmas Eve 1987. We had a nice time. The Hollers had bought me some nice gifts. That was very kind! (Also, you see the Hollers dog, Spotty, below, next to me on the couch. (Bernd sure loved his dogs)
