It was October 31st, 2003 and it was Halloween night. We had just started dating and he had not met my 5 boys living with me in Mentone, CA. (Other than Austin when he was 1 years old)
So, Rudy shows up (he reminds me) that night at my home to met me and my kids and the first person he saw was Austin in his costume for Halloween. That year Austin dressed up as "a bum" or "a tramp" or "Homeless person" looking like he was living on the streets with ripped up clothes, dirt on his cheeks, ratted hair, torn jeans, no shoes and his cardboard sign saying 'will work for candy'. LOL
So Rudy's immediate first thoughts were, "WOW, Lisa's kids are looking terrible, Poor Mother, she must be over run, she needs serious help with these kids"!
When he reminded me last night of what he first thought BEFORE he found out that Austin was just wearing a 'costume' we were laughing so hard about it. That was too funny.
If I remember right, Austin also got a new pair of Tennis shoes from a woman who felt bad for him that night when she saw him at the Library, because she too believed he was homeless or neglected. She said that her son had a NEW pair of tennis shoes that he refused to wear and that if he came back to the Library down the street from our home, that she would leave the shoes with them and he could have them....so we did, and I remember when that happened that night, Austin and I were laughing and cracking up about the whole situation because it was just his 'costume' for Halloween that night only, but boy did he get special attention that night. Good times, good memories. (People are sure nice!)
On another note, this reminds me of something sweet about Austins other brothers too. Every time Rudy and I watch a movie made by 'Dreamworks' and see that picture (in the beginning of the little boy sitting on the moon fishing, we say to each other "Look, there's Jordan" or "Doesn't that look JUST like Jordan?" !!
It is so cute and believe it or not, we have been saying that to each other since we were dating. Every time I watch a movie made by this company I am reminded of my sweet boy Jordan. Very sweet.
Then again when we are watching a movie made by 'Lakeshore Entertainment' and the intro comes on where a little boy is jumping off a pier, we always say "Doesn't he look JUST like Jacob?" or "Look, there's Jacob". I love seeing on movies what appears to be my sweet middle-child Jacob, having water fun, just like I remember him by and always envision him doing today.
Fun stuff like this, make me smile and warms my heart during these years we are separated in the physical....(but not in the heart).
Just thought I would mention these fun things here today while I thought of them.
