When my children lived with me, my oldest son, Austin Spencer Holler, was ordained to the office of 'Teacher' in the Aaronic Priesthood, shortly before he went to go live with his dad and was forbidden from then on to participate in this awesome program and continue to grow in the Priesthood ranks and progress into higher callings of maturity and great and rare responsibilities.
Finally, last Sunday another one of my dear sons, Alexander my youngest, finally was able to reach this great potential of 'Teacher' also.
I am surprised that their father Bernd does NOT let them feel this great love, power, blessing, and awesome responsibility in their own lives, considering that he rose in this same Priesthood program as an adult and even became an 'Elder' in the Melchizedek Priesthood in the LDS Church before he was deceived and fell away from this great and powerful blessing in ones life.
So on Sunday was an especially SPECIAL day for all of us here at home.
My son Alexander was ordained to the office of 'Teacher' in the LDS Church! What a heart touching thing for a loving mother to watch.
It was so NEAT to witness and hear the sweet blessing my husband and the others in the circle gave him after he ordained Alex.
What are his responsibilities now? What opportunities does he now have to help him grow into a loving, respectful young man? . . .
Well, he is now prepared to administer Priesthood Ordinances.
Teachers prepare and pass the sacrament.
Teachers assist the bishop in “administering … temporal things” (D&C 107:68). This may include gathering fast offerings, caring for the poor and needy, caring for the meetinghouse and grounds, serving as a messenger for the bishop in Church meetings, and fulfilling other assignments from the quorum president.
Being a 'Teacher' like his older brother Austin, means he has a duty to Invite All to Come unto Christ:
- Teachers are to “watch over the LDS Church". One way to do this is by serving as a home teacher. Teachers also “see that there is no iniquity in the church, neither hardness with each other, neither lying, backbiting, nor evil speaking; and see that the church meet together often”.
- This responsibility includes being a peacemaker, being an example of moral integrity and uprightness, and inviting others to attend church.
They continue to “warn, expound, exhort, and teach, and invite all to come unto Christ”. This includes setting a good example, fellowshipping quorum members and others, speaking in Church meetings, sharing the gospel, and bearing testimony.
I often Pray that my son Austin is still being the same responsible young adult he left me as, even without his dad's approval, and is still choosing to uphold and honor this great gift that he was once given and which he accepted to protect and honor, when he turned 14 years old, in the Redlands II Ward in CA. and he was ordained to this special office also.
I hope and pray that someday his other brothers will follow in Austins and Alex's footsteps and are blessed with this great responsibility and power, so that they will also have a great peace in their own homes as husbands and fathers!!
CONGRATULATIONS MY DEAR SON ALEXANDER!! I am so proud of you ♥
Super nice day !! — feeling blessed.
